Its flowers’ colour varies from white, yellow, orange, pink, red(as per variety). Except extreme hot & cold weather, the plant can bloom round the year. The plant loves humid atmosphere and shows maximum flowers during rainy season. Due to horizontal growth of root, it keeps on giving birth to new plants. Keep plants in full sunlight for better growth.
We can easily preserve the bulbs after blooming season gets over. If you do not wish to preserve the bulbs, you can leave the bulb in soil itself. The bulb can stay with leaves as a rooted plant in soil. The plant will be available with its leaves. The plant is having roots in bulb form and stores sufficient food for adverse climatic condition. Due to this, it can survive dry season also. It may shed its all leaves due to absence of moisture in soil, but when its bulb receive suitable moisture, it starts growing.
Watering & Sunlight: This plant prefers to grow well in direct sunlight. However, it can bloom in diffused sunlight as well. We should water, only when the soil becomes dry. Proper drainage by making sufficient holes in bottom of pot is must.
Soil: Its potting mix must be aerated well by use of drainage media upto 20 % (river sand, Leca, Pumice/Perlite or rice husk- use any one of them). All these items help in aeration also. We can mix upto 30% cocopeat, 20 % vermi compost, 25 % sterilised garden soil, 5% Neem Cake in its potting mix. This plant does not require frequent fertilizers. We may add fertlizers once in 3 months.
