Botanical Name:   Ficus Elastica

This plant is capable to purify air of your living space. These plants generally have strong stems and fleshy leaves. Its shiny oval leaves of burgundy colour look very attractive. The tree can yield a milky white latex that can be used to make rubber. It can attain height of 15 feet, if grown outdoor on ground. Regular pruning will help it show more dense growth. If we do not prune, it will continue growing straight and tall.

Watering & Sunlight:    Rubber plant prefers to grow in bright indirect sunlight with ventilation. If you can provide such atmosphere inside your home, please keep there. Otherwise you may keep it in your balconies, where it will be able to receive sufficient sunlight with ventilation. Exposure of this plant to sunlight in higher temperature may cause sun burn of its leaves.  Drainage in pot is necessary by making sufficient holes in bottom. Whenever the soil becomes slightly dry, you can water it.

Soil:   Drainage in pot is necessary by making sufficient holes in bottom. To make the ideal potting mix, 20 % drainage media (river sand/ Leca/ Perlite/ Pumice or rice husk- use any one of them) in potting mix should be available. In rest of the potting mix, we should mix Cocopeat (20 %), vermi – compost (20 %) and garden soil (40 %) in equal ratio. Use of Neem Cake (5-10%), will improve further quality of potting mix.
