Lemon Grass plant can attain height of 5 Feet and it can become a dense clump. Its strap like long leaves can grow upto 3 feet. We can divide the clump to make new plants. This fragrant herb is used very commonly in making green teas and other beverages. If we cut its leaves, it will give smell resembling lemons. This is perennial plant. During hot weather also, this plant can tolerate sun & heat. Growth of this plant will be maximum during rainy season. This plant is also used as mosquitoes repellent plant.
Watering & Sunlight:This plant likes to grow in direct sunlight, but it can be grown in indirect sunlight also. We should water it whenever the soil has become slightly dry.
Soil:Water logging is to be avoided. To make the ideal potting mix, 20 % drainage media (river sand/ Leca/ Perlite/ Pumice or rice husk- use any one of them) in potting mix should be available. In rest of the potting mix, we should mix vermi-compost (20 %) and garden soil (60%).
Medicinal Use:Lemon Grass is used to prepare lemon grass oil which is a valuable herbal medicine. For this reason, commercial farming of this plant is done in many parts of our country.
Culinary Use:Its stalk and leaves are used in cooking also.
