Kalaonche Tomentosa Succulent – Long Life Succulent for Summer Season

The plant will be sent in a plastic pot. We can grow this succulent even during summer season. The best part of this succulent is that it can withstand with low humidity levels (upto 25 %) and high temperature. During hot days of summer season, it becomes very common that temperature level goes upward and humidity level comes to the lowest level. Due to this reason, our succulents starts dying due to low humidity, even after keeping in shady area. But this succulent can survive such climatic conditions. We should keep succulents in properly ventilated area. If we keep this inside closed drawing room for long duration, it may adversely affect its health.

Watering & Sunlight:  We can expose this succulent to direct sunlight in morning or evening hours. This succulent prefers to grow in bright indirect sunlight. This plant can tolerate direct sunlight for a few hours, even in summer season. In comparison with other succulents, this needs lesser water. Root rot due to excess moisture in soil is the most common reason for death of this succulent. If we do not water this for more than 10 days, its lower leaves may become more hard and dry. But plant will not die due to less watering. This indicates that the succulent needs water urgently.  Proper drainage by making sufficient holes in bottom of pot is must.

Soil:     Its potting mix must be aerated well by use of drainage media upto 25 % (river sand, Leca, Pumice/Perlite or rice husk). All these items help in drainage also. We can mix upto 40% cocopeat and 35 % (mix of vermi compost + sterilised garden soil + Vermiculite) in its potting mix.
