Ipomoea batata variegated or Shakariya Bael- a fast growing creeper plant looks awesome with its tricoloured leaves (voilet, green, white). We can use this plant as a bed cover to hide soil in landscaping. The plant remains vivid during hot season also. The plant grows well even without fertilizer. In case of overgrowth, we can prune it regularly to give desired shape. Pruning increases growth rate and plant shows dense growth. This plant has a herbacaeous stem and needs support of coir pole or rod to climb vertically.
Watering & Sunlight: It ikes sunlight, but can survive shady area also. Drainage in pot is necessary by making sufficient holes in bottom. Whenever the soil is about to become dry, please water the plant.
Soil: We should prepare the potting mix in such way so that water should reach bottom of pot within 15-25 seconds. This is the basic quality of fast draining soil. Such soil also contributes to make the potting mix more aerated. To make the ideal potting mix, 20 % drainage media (river sand/ Leca/ Perlite/ Pumice or rice husk- use any one of them) in potting mix should be available. In rest of the potting mix, we should mix vermi-compost (20 %), cocopeat (20%) and garden soil (40%).
